Someone please give me a good reason how only 1 in 7 pick Mega Man to win his division after what he did in 2002. A 2 seed beating a 1 isn't some massive upset.

Going into this match, Snake was the underdog to win, but not by all that much and he still had a decent chance to pull the upset. Unfortunately, Mega Man was able to jump on Snake early without ever looking back. At the beginning of the poll, Mega Man had 54% of the vote. For the rest of the poll, Snake did nothing more than slowly shave off .5% from that original 54% en route to being handed a steady, respectable loss. This is what most people expected, which made it a fairly boring match.

But things quickly turned around once people realized that we were in line to see a rematch between Mega Man and Sephiroth, not to mention the fact that in no way would Link roll over Cloud come the next match of the contest. From the looks of things, we had a very exciting Final Four coming up. The question from Mega Man's perspective was whether or not he would be able to keep up with Sephiroth's massive boost. Breaking 60% on Mario is no joke, but that didn't stop the Mega Man faithful from hoping against hope.

The interesting thing about Snake's loss is that in the early days of this board, Solid Snake versus Sephiroth was the most hyped final. We were 8318 votes away from actually seeing it happen, though knowing what he know now it would be a miracle for Snake to receive anything other than the SFF beating of his life at the hands of the big FF7 duo.

Snake would return to the contest in 2004, and would again run into Mega Man. Again, he would easily lose. 2005 was Snake's moment of glory, as he finally made his long-awaited Final Four appearance after three straight Elite 8 losses. Unfortunately, he ran right into Mario. He lost, but not before actually managing to win a couple of updates in the early hours.
