Army Men is game/contest on board 8 designed by ChumpMoney. The premise is to control the majority of the house while defeating the armies of other users and gaining valuable bonuses. It incorporates D&D style narration elements with limited CYOA user input in a blend that is simple to play and understand, and requires little work on part of the players.

Upon enlisting in a game of Army Men, users are required to pick any combination of 5 standard plastic toy army men, as well as a daily strategy by which their army will act. The narrator at that point assumes full control and depicts the rest of the days events, typically including each army in some form of engagement with another army. The pay off after each day comes in the form of bonuses, or upgrades to armies that defeat opponents/complete missions/discover treasure.

Army Men has under gone a number of changes over the past 2 years, mostly in regards to how the daily events transpire. Originally the outcomes were purely random, and user input was nonexistent. ChumpMoney's decisions were predominantly random, with tweaks in regards to his mood, how much he liked particular users, and user interest. Since then adaptations have included dice determining factors, and more influential daily strategies.

Units and Descriptions[]

  • Rifleman - The standard unit, standing, armed with a rifle. They're like pawns in chess if pawns used guns.
  • Grenadier - Replaces a rifle with a belt full of grenades and a collection of mines. Ideal against slow or stationary units.
  • Prone Riflemen - Armed with a rifle, slower, but harder to see and hit.
  • Handgun Unit - Less range, faster firing, lightly equipped for fastest movement.
  • Bazooka Unit - Armed with a bazooka, slow to fire but devastating. Ideal against vehicles.
  • Air Strike Officer - Binoculars, radio, and not much else. Calls in one devastating air strike per round of combat. Many areas in the house are not accessible for air strike.
  • Flame Thrower Unit - Maniac with fire. Can flush out bunkers and trenches easily. Gas tanks can explode if hit, a danger to comrades.
  • Stationary Machine Gunner - Stationary, but brutal against incoming ground troops.
