Best Character Period 2010 is a character contest run by the user maplejet. Unlike past BCPs, this contest is a 256-character bracket in 4-way matches similar to the past character contests on GameFAQs. The fields consists of 8 regions of 32 characters with defending champion Dr. Gregory House, runner-up Phillip J. Fry, and final four finalists Homer Simpson and Captain Jack Sparrow awarded 1 seeds. The rest of the seeding were determined later after nominations.

The rules are as follows:

  • Matches run for 24 hours with a tiebreaker if necessary. No tiebreakers if there is a tie for 1st place between 2 characters
  • Only one character can be voted for in each match.
  • No predictions as it is difficult to do at this point.
  • Seeds 1-6 are awarded only to characters who reached round 3 in BCP2008.

CONTROVERSY (OR WHINING/CONSPIRACIES) REGARDING THE FINAL MATCHESEdit

It seems due to Tom's insane run, the board was divided as it became clear that Tom was getting stronger to the point he would most likely win it all.

From the running Results topic

"An interesting match which could get nasty. Luna and Jack are the frontrunners, but if they have issues taking each other out, then room will open for Ash or Tom to steal a spot." --maplejet first round analysis which he predicted would be won by Skellington in 1st place and Luna in 2nd place.

"Out of nowhere, while Luna and Jack were brawling, Tom came blazing and pulled an upset. Now in order for Harry Potter to go 4/4, Luna must take out Skellington in a tiebreaker." --maplejet after Tom's round 1 match...Skellington proceeded to win the tiebreaker that he was forced into due to Tom's stunning upset. The result led to Shoenin_Kakashi yelling "OH SNAP TOM" twice

"Tom sneaked past both Luna Lovegood and Jack Skellington and stole 1st place...this was strange, especially after his counterpart Jerry's abysmal performance earlier in the contest" --maplejet's post round 1 analysis.

"It appears that Skellington had put his match finally out of reach, unless something drastic happens, we can assume Skellington is moving on. Now we got The Joker here who smoked everyone last round. 2nd place Calvin was doubled. Looking at the field, expect the Joker to repeat the performance yet again. It will be Skellington and Calvin dueling for third place...but Tom may cause SFF to happen. Tom's performance last round was due to weaker competition, but with more votes going to be taken by the Joker and slightly tougher competition, Tom's race to the rat may end here (1st - The Joker, 2nd - Calvin) --maplejet's round 2 analysis/prediction. Apparently, Tom took out Calvin with a run...the Joker still won that match, but had to deal with Tom all contest long.

"What the hell is Tom doing here...sneaking past all these strong characters...well, how bout 3 of them...The Joker, The Turtle, and the Clone. Yeah, The Joker wants a shot at glory, and Mewtwo wants to cause problems while Leo, the lone TMNT character left, needs to make sure he can break the top 32. Unless Tom goes Solid Snake on the pack, it's going to be a 3-way battle...Mewtwo and Leo may need to settle their differences in a tiebreaker (1st - Joker, 2nd - Mewtwo)" --maplejet's round 3 analysis/prediction for Tom's match. Tom didn't exactly go Solid Snake, but he tied Joker and edged both Mewtwo and Leo, at this point, his momentum was building.


After Tom's victory that sent Kirby out of the arena and forced Bond to fight the Joker, at this point, it became obvious to some that Tom was most likely going to win it all...here's where it got ugly:

"Great, Tom became exactly what I didnt want him to be :/. I dont think Tom is unworthy. I freaking love Tom, and grew up on Tom and Jerry. What I dont like is him being rallied and train'd." --Shoenin_Kakashi on the growing bandwagon that led to the inevitable.

"Hooray board 8. The only board where you can throw in a noticeably random character among elite ones and know exactly what's going to happen. Oh well. Better than Homer winning I guess." --vcharon starting to complain

"Someone odd and unexpected is winning, and thus you say that this is what was expected all along. Which is a paradox! =O" --Psycho_Kenshin...as usual, with a MGS3 flavored post due to a paradox!

From the final tiebreaker between Snake and Tom:

"Against the bandwagon...Let's make the impossible possible!" --Kamekguy attempting to end the run.

"darkx was right.....you are a complainer vcharon." --guffguy, the biggest supporter of Tom summing it up as the inevitable was met.

There has been so many bandwagon runs...Freakazoid in BCP1, Black Mage in BCP4 and BCP5. But Tom's major run and takedowns of heavyweights including the eventual then-favorite Solid Snake made him the champion.

I myself was actually voting for Solid Snake hoping he could win something after his major run in the Gamefaqs Character Battle 8...guess it'll have to be next year.
