This is the 7th part of Board 8 Ranks Pokemon. Users ranked the 48 Mega Pokemon as of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Steiner excluded Primal Groudon and Kyogre for reasons.
Steiner hosted this part of the project. Board 8 users sent lists to him that ranked the Mega Pokemon from #1 to #48, with #1 being that user's favorite Pokemon and so on. Steiner added up the lists to create a master list that hopefully gave a good idea of Board 8's taste in Pokemon. See here for more details on the project.
Steiner started posting the rankings on January 19, 2016. On February 1st, Steiner revealed the #1 Mega, which was perhaps the most dominant winner in this series yet.

ctes: This one is really great. I have sadly yet to use it in-game, but I love it in random battles. You look at it and think "Medicham has completed its training." Didn't care for Medicham before, but its mega managed to change that.
Genny: Haters gonna hate, but I love awesome Hindi bellydancer Medicham. The idea of that thing just wailing on some unsuspecting sucker makes me giddy as a schoolgirl.
StifledSilence: Team America likely wouldn't appreciate this guy.
MegamanX: This isn't bad but I don't like the head design.
Johnbobb: Still not a big Medicham fan but this evolution actually looks like something I’d use.

Inviso: Medicham's design is below-average, and its Mega is below average, but somehow it's not awful in its new design.

Genny: Does a pokémon specializing in healing and support need a mega evolution? I don't really understand the point of it, and without knowing exactly how it plays I likely never will. It's just when you only can have one mega evolving pokémon per battle who would waste it on Audino? Don't get me wrong it's adorable, but why is it necessary?
Inviso: Mega Audino doesn't feel like it gains anything new by existing (hell, it still has one of its old abilities), and its new design is terrible.
hotdogturtle: It's just kind of there.
ctes: I can't get over the fact that this is the only generation V Pokemon to get a mega. I hate it. I know that gen V was recent, so obviously that wouldn't be their focus, but why Audino? I've actually really come to like Audino recently for the amount of experience it gives, but that doesn't exactly carry over here, since you don't encounter this thing. I like that they kept Audino normal and made this normal/fairy. Normal fairy is a cool type combination, but it's really not that great or different imo.

Natwaf: Man, so many more worthy Gen V pokemon to give Megas too. Instead they gave it to the EXP Punching bag. Then again, I guess it needed something else to differentiateit from the pink blobs.

Genny: I like its face as it has finally dawned on it that its being eaten alive. That's about ALL I like about it. Why fucking Slowbro and not Slowking? What makes IT worthy and not Scyther? Nothing, that's what.

ctes: Aboslutely hideous. What they hell is the point of just putting it into the Shellder, it feels like they're purposely mocking it and screw that. To people beliving Slowking will get one too, who would you guess this was if you didn't know, it's not that obvious imo. Slowbro is a good choice for a mega, but try again please, this went terrible.
MegamanX: This is the first Slow evolution to not look really high or oblivious. This pokemon looks like it is in constant pain and honestly it's hard to look at.
Inviso: This is the goofiest and dumbest possible design that could give to Slowbro. It looks so utterly half-assed that it's unfortunate that it exists.
swordz9: So dumb looking. I'm sure that's the point, but it's still just so bad.
OrangeCrush: It's being eaten by its own shell.

Johnbobb: A fighting Mewtwo is exactly what this series needed. Gets unfortunately overlooked because of the inferior Mewtwo Y.
Anagram: Mewtwo takes up boxing for basicalyl no reason.
Natwaf: The superior Megatwo, looks badass, and unlike the other Mega, no stat points were wasted here. He kinda needs more moves though. I mean, Low Kick is fine and dandy in ubers, where everybody is a fatass except for, like, Shaymin and the teeny tiny things, but what about if I want to use it against small things? Well, fortunately they left Special Attack untouched, so you can still use Aura Sphere. But still.
XIII: FUCKING MEDICHAM BUT GOOD
Whiskey Nick: BEEFY!
Wicklebee: Buu ate Cell and turned purplish.
Cybat: I had this one lower initially but it's not quite as silly as I remember it being. Fighting/Psychic is still a cool combination, and it currently has the highest Attack stat of any Pokemon, so that's neat. Still feels DBZish, though.
Genny: Ew... monkey toes. Yeah I prefer the Special attacking variation to the Physical one.
Raka: Grilled Mewtwo-X legs with almond sauce
junglebob22: lmao Mewtwo-X. When Mewtwo shows up in fighting-type game, Mewtwo-Y is STILL favored over you. Those feet look so weird!
My Immortal: So dumb.
MegamanX: Something is really off about this look. Too clean maybe? The Armor looks odd, the body shape is very weird. Not digging it.
Inviso: Legendary Pokemon, especially an overrated legendary like Mewtwo, do not need Mega evolutions. Mega Mewtwo X takes the ugliest aspects of Mewtwo and makes them worse, which sucks.
swordz9: Really powerful, but also ugly as hell.
Pokalicious: Let's take this cool, menacing Legendary Pokémon and turn it into a deformed monkey-looking thing.
StifledSilence: The alternate timeline where Rocky Balboa created Mewtwo instead of Team Rocket.
Paratroopa1: wow they took mewtwo and made him even more bulbous and gross, woohoo
Suor: There were so many things they could do with Mewtwo, and instead they went and made two Megas, both horrible. X in particular is an abomination.
mcflubbin: They sure did not do Mewtwo any justice with these Mega designs. They had two chances too, and they blew them both. It's a pity.
ctes: Seriously, when you make mega evolutions for the badass original best Pokemon, you are careful that you do it well. This sucks. It looks so offensively ugly and it has absolutely no business being a fighting type either. It doesn't matter if psychic is no longer the best type, that's just what it should be.

ctes: This Pokemon is cool, but it's not exactly an exciting Mega compared to Abomasnow itself. Design wise they also played it somewhat safe, not much exciting about that.

Inviso: Mega Abomasnow is an improvement over its base design, but it's still a bad design overall.
swordz9: He kind of just looks like a big piece of ice now instead of a snow monster.
Cybat: How many of you guys remembered that this exists before starting your list? I know I didn't. I don't know if it's supposed to be fur or ice all over its body but it looks really goofy. At least it's kind of OK in Trick Room teams.
MegamanX: Crazy winter hobo.
Pokalicious: Pretty much the same as normal one imo.
Genny: Eh... there's nothing really special about it. Being boring can sometimes be worse than being mildly offensive.

hotdogturtle: Lopunny has always been a niche Pokemon with Klutz strats that seemed that they could be good but just sucked. Now the mega gets the Normal/Fighting niche, and can actually use it thanks to Scrappy and nice attack/speed stats. Solid, well designed Pokemon all around that's fun to use.
Suor: Finally the bunny slut turned into a bad bitch who will come and bitch slap the crap out of haters. Ya go gurl!
OrangeCrush: Megas that take interesting-but-weak Pokemon and make them good are the best. Mega Lopunny's twig arms and upper torso are really awkward though.
Natwaf: HELL YES SCRAPPY ON A FIGHTING/NORMAL TYPE! No more switching into ghosts to dodge that Hi-Jump Kick, you protect or die. Dat perfect coverage man, can't enough of it. Too bad Normal doesn't actually hit any weakness, but there's always Inverse Battle.
ctes: I think design wise, I don't find it that much better looking, but I guess it looks slightly more the type it is. I really love using it though. It's a really nice type comination. Normal is powerful and does normal damage against most things, but is never effective. Fighting is effective against the things that resist normal and three more types too! It's excellent. Ghost is obviously a bad opponent, but then have coverage for that or change. They did a good job handling this one!

Inviso: I like Lopunny's original design the most, followed by the pink shiny version. Mega Lopunny is okay, but it feels like it's trying too hard to appeal to furries.
Genny: 80s aerobic MEGA stripper thank-you-very-much! I just love that GameFreak or whoever actually WENT there. Oh you think Lopunny was furrybait before? Fuck you, we're adding a fur pattern that resembles ripped fishnet stockings, plus finger gloves with matching ankle boots. Now THAT'S what I call furrybait!
swordz9: Can't wait to see the write-ups for this one. I'm surprised I ranked it this high.
MegamanX: Yoga pants. Sigh. It's better than its regular form but sigh.
Cybat: I actually like the overall design, it sorta feels like what I wanted Mienshao to have been. Then I had to read this sentence on Bulbapedia: "The fur on its neck, upper torso, fingers, and legs blackens, forming a pattern on the legs that resembles ripped pantyhose." And now whether or not that was their intention I can't unsee it.
My Immortal: That fact that porn probably exists of this makes me sad.
Pokalicious: Lopunny learned kung fu. Fast as hell and kicks ass. This should probably be higher now that I'm writing the writeups… too lazy to change it, plus deadline is soon.

OrangeCrush: Manectric is my favorite Pokemon, and Mega Man didn't disappoint. He has a cool design and it finally got Manectric into OU! All hail the Yellow Bomber!
Comm: I love Manectric to begin with, so making it even more lightningy and powerful is amazing.

ctes: This thing really looks like a mega form. And it looks good. A bunch of them just change their look a bit, but doesn't look like something that is more powerful. Manectric is cool to begin with, but look at its mega and you know not to mess with it. Of course, it doesn't just look god, it is good1
Genny: HaHA! Well it's not like Manectric was super awesome before or anything so it's not like this could ruin it. I appreciate that they at least tried to make it more interesting and memorable even though it looks like it should crumble under the weight of its immense mane now.

Inviso: Manectric is one of the worst designs for an electric Pokemon, so in that regard his Mega is an improvement…but Mega Manectric still looks stupid.

I just feel like Mega Salamance does the jet fighter thing a helluva heap better and I'd rather see my character sprite flying around on one of those than either of the samey uber Wondertwins. Removing almost all trace of what makes them unique wasn't a sound decision.

Suor: The only reason this (and Latios) isn't in the bottom 10 is because of how cool and useful it is to fly on them in ORAS. Made me appreciate them despite the godawful and lazy design. Normally I like Latios better, but I put Latias one spot higher because I had AS, thus she was the one I called with the Eon Flute.
Natwaf: Fire whoever thought Mega Latias looks good like this. THAT said, Soar is great, and it actually has use unlike her brother.
ctes: I seriously can't tell the two eon Pokemon apart in their mega forms. They look exactly the same to me. I looked it up and apparently the eyes are different colors, but that's not enough. They look cool, but it drags them down that they're the same design-wise. I hope everyone ranks them right next to each other, they should be. Latias gets to be the lower of the two because I prefer Latios' stat distribution.
Pokalicious: I love Latias, but its Mega just doesn't look like it.

ctes: Heracross would probably take second place here if it didn't look… fat. That's my one only issue, but aside from that it's incredible. It does look like the Heraboss it is, just really wish it didn't look chubby around the face. Anyway, it's fantastic to use a battle, I dislike double weaknesses and it seemed unnecessary to make it lose speed considering that, but it doesn't matter too much. Pin Missile x5 for sure and close combat. It's too good. And with the latter, screw if it's a double weakness, it'll be vulnerable anyway.
MegamanX: He now looks like a Kirby boss and I really dig his chest is now an air vent.

hotdogturtle: It's like a buffed up Cinccino, aka one of my favorite Pokemon, so I should like it. But instead of being one of the cutest things ever, it has a giant nose. And you can't cheese it by holding a King's Rock.

Natwaf: Skill Link is fantastic on Heracross. What's that? Arm Thrust still sucks? You do know he can still use Close Combat right? That said, even though Heracross > Pinsir, Mega Pinsir > Mega Heracross. And he got slower too… well, as long as he's just up against Walls, he'll do great.

Comm: They damn near ruined this Pokemon. It was one of my favorites. They took away its characteristic horn and replaced it with a clown face. Terrible.
Suor: Heracross' Mega should've been an epic fighting beetle and instead looks like a fat school bully.

Anagram: How do you intend to actually ever hit someone with that spike? It's so long that you'll have to stare directly at the ground to aim it at someone's chest, and then you won't be able to see.

StifledSilence: Well it took a long time but Frieza finally became a Pokemon.
Genny: Count me as always having been part of the Mew > Two camp, so I was pretty happy when the mega evolution (what I thought would be the only one at the time) of Mewtwo resembled the original moreso than the clone. I dunno what the fascination with head-tails is, but I'm really feeling most of the design.

ctes: Seriously, when you make mega evolutions for the badass original best Pokemon, you are careful that you do it well. This sucks. It's the absolute worst, because it manages to look a lot weaker than it did before. Mewtwo is not exactly the coolest thing ever, but it shouldn't upgrade into what looks like Frieza's baby form. To think they tried twice with Mewtwo and managed to screw up both so badly.

Cybat: Sharpedo, but spikier and stripier. Not the worst outcome. With its stat gains divided up so much, though, it ends up being not that useful.
Natwaf: Ugh, move that damn special attack boost to speed or attack dammit. Still, without it, you can still Protect to get a Speed Boost, THEN attack as Mega to reap the benefits. Plus, ORAS Surfing man. Looks better than normal Sharpedo by a lot. I like my pokemon like I like my waifu. With a lot of battle scars.
Suor: The design is uninspired and random, but I love that it complements well with Speed Boost base Sharpedo. You can actually get at least one round of Speed Boost before Mega Evolving and then proceed to murder everything in sight.
Anagram: "I got a mega purely because I'm the signature pokemon of a major character."
My Immortal: Like a shark, but more like a shark.
Inviso: Sharpedo looks fine, and his Mega Evoltuion, while not bad, is a little bit unnecessarily overdesigned.
Johnbobb: They tried too hard to make him look cool and it definitely backfired.
ctes: This one honestly looks a bit ridulous, I feel like they wanted to make it look a lot stronger, but had no idea how. Its counterpart Camerupt had the eruption for an obvious upgrade, but they had nothing in mind here. So what do they do? Just add weirdly places fangs and put a bunch of ugly yellow stuff on it apparently. It's an excellent sweeper, but its design is not pleasing.

hotdogturtle: When the Kanto trio Megas were first revealed, people were giving Venusaur shit for not looking "different" enough, but it was my favorite. It's just subtle enough that it looks lik a slightly more advanced Venusaur, which is suitable for how it plays similarly to normal Venusaur but bulkier.
My Immortal: Not the worst because he barely looks different than Venusaur. Too bad Venusaur sucks.
StifledSilence: Pretty much the same Venusaur, only leafier.
Wicklebee: Edibility has lowered even further, but so much meat!

Natwaf: Ahh, Venusaur. Thick Fat on a defensive poke? Whoa nelly. I still don't like defensive poke that much though.

Suor: Venusaur sucks and there's no redeeming that, but I can appreciate that it let a jungle grow on its back, it's pretty cool.
ctes: This is not a bad mega at all, in fact, it's actually really tanky. It kinda was already. It's design is very boring though. They mostly played it safe, but then added a flower on its head, which looks kinda bad.
MegamanX: While this is decent, it is really standard and boring.
swordz9: Look at all those change—oh wait it basically looks the same. Venusaur itself is kind of ugly, but this is a slight improvement.
XIII: FUCKING BLOB
Comm: Lazy design. Make the plants bigger, they said. They'll like it, they said.
Inviso: Given the effort put into Mega Blastoise and Mega Charizard X, I feel bad because Mega Venusaur is the most half-assed design of the group.

Natwaf: One of the key players in my Maison team, MeGyarados' type change is fantastic. Oh sure Water/Dark boohoo, but the AI can't handle the fact that it changed typing. The boost in Spec Def and losing Flying allowed it to shrug off Lightning Attacks that would have killed it, pulling off a much needed Dragon Dance. And Mold Breaker allows it to punish Levitate and Water Absorb peeps. I love you fat shrimp you!

ctes: It looks cool, but I thought it looked cool before too and I'm not sure which I prefer honestly. But man, what a big f*** you to everyone stating it should've been dragon and making it flying was stupid. Like they just don't want to admit that was stupid back then. It's really nice that it doesn't have a double weakness it shouldn't have, and dark is honestly a nice addition, but it was always supposed to be a dragon, this was their time to change it and they didn't.
Whiskey Nick: UNINSPIRED!
Johnbobb: Went from being the great water dragon to just a badass fishing lure.
Inviso: So they upgraded Charizard to Fire/Dragon with one Mega, and it makes sense because Charizard was half-flying due to Dragon being OP in RBY…Gyarados doesn't get Dragon as a second typing though? That's BS.

Pokalicious: Looks like a dick gone soft. Should've been Water/Dragon. It's still a good Pokémon, and it looks more similar to Magikarp, but I just don't really care about it.

junglebob22: I don't care if the Pokedex says Gyarados maintains its full length, this looks its been squashed from its ends, and given a big dumb fin. Those red markings on its side look terrible in-game
MegamanX: This is a downgrade from his non mega form. In fact this pokemon is channeling more Magikarp than it is Gyrados here. Sad.

junglebob22: Regular Swampert just doesn't appeal to me, but Swampert on roids makes the design suddenly click for some reason. I think it's also due to the change in its head fins.
Natwaf: Natalia x Hulk/Banner just doesn't work. Anyway, Megapert has a fatal flaw: it only has Swift Swim AFTER it becomes a Mega, and the speed boost doesn't kick in since the turn order is already determined during that turn's turn selection. Shame. Still, it looks awesome, and I loved using it in-game. AND I GOT A SHINY PINK SWAMPERT TO USE AS WELL!

Genny: This evolution is utterly ridiculous but in the best possible way. From two spoons to ALL THE SPOONS, epic beard of sagelyness, and interlocking toes while hovering off the ground. I guess this is what it means for a pokémon to reach enlightenment.
Inviso: This is definitely an improvement design-wise over the more generic Alakazam, but that's about it.
Comm: Never underestimate the power of a beard.

ctes: It's appearence barely changes, like, you can see a clear difference, but it's only a few details being the difference. It's excellent in battle, feels cool to use.
Inviso: Garchomp is okay, but the Mega design (while unnecessary) looks sharper and crisper, so yay for that.
Comm: My biggest complaint with Garchomp had always been those puny little white things at the end of his arms. They definitely corrected their mistake turning them into big ass scythes.

Pokalicious: Was unsure where to rank this one. I love Garchomp, but its Mega design… not so much. But it is still good, and my love for Garchomp sees through its scythe-like fins.
junglebob22: Garish colors and spikes, but those were already found on regular Garchomp! Those features are just accentuated in a way to make Garchomp look more like something that will tear you apart.
Wicklebee: Wants a hug, but got scythe hands so no one wants to give him one.
swordz9: I like how the arms turned into scythes, but his speed cut hurts him too much.
Cybat: This literally looks like someone described Garchomp to a nine year old and then had him draw it. Seriously look at that face, and the tooth spikes on his chest. So dumb.

Genny: First of all, Garchomp was already broken and did not NEED a mega evolution. Second you mean to tell me that you gave him one anyway and THIS was the best you could come up with? The spikes (of which there are far too many) are dumb, the jawline is dumb, the face is dumb, and Sand Force is dumb. The only thing I like is the reaper blade arms but those alone are not nearly enough to save it.

Suor: Steelix is a cool but incredibly simple pokémon. I love the little touches they made to give it more detail, the crystalline spikes and the steel shards around it in particular, make it look less plain.
MegamanX: I really dig the way they did Steelix by having the Steel break into crystals and he even gets his own gravitational orbit!
Paratroopa1: improvement over steelix, has kind of a neat color scheme going I think
ctes: Steelix looks really cool actually, and it's really tanky too at least against most fight and ground attacks. I really like the effect the scraps around its neck gives too!
My Immortal: I hate it.
XIII: FUCKING FLOATING BITS OF STEEL LIKE A KING
Cybat: Another pretty awesome tank with no reliable recovery. Its design is pretty formidable but what is the deal with the random metal floating around it? It's just weird.
Inviso: Mega Steelix barely feels like an upgrade, but that's better than getting something outright terrible for a design.
swordz9: Looks cooler than regular Steelix, but did he really need a Mega? Feels like a waste.
KommunistKoala: Even without sand up, this thing is a TANK. Looks cool.
StifledSilence: What is it…why is it…huh?
hotdogturtle: The main thing that I dislike about Mega Steelix is that in all the animated model rips online, the floating rocks around its body don't loop correctly. It's like they don't move on the same cycles as his body animation, and the animations aren't long enough to capture all of it. I don't know if it's like that in the games or not because I've never used one. I looked at its stats and it actually looks like a good spread, so maybe I'd try it some time. Probably doesn't need to be this low on my list, but honestly, when I think about Mega Steelix, the animation problem is the first thing that comes to mind.
Natwaf: Nice attack boost, and looks great, but for some reason… Mega Steelix doesn't sit well with me. I don't know, I guess it's the further boost to Def.

Pokalicious: Mega Diancie is majestic as fuck. Love the design, stat distribution, ability, and well… everything about it. Diancie is poop next to Mega Diancie.
Suor: I absolutely love Mega Diancie. It's an incredibly beautiful design that looks elegant and perfectly suited for a Diamond Princess, also full of detail. The pokémon itself was already quite unique and cool, with a signature move, the ability of creating PINK DIAMONDS and its link to Carbink.
Cybat: Might be a little overdesigned but it works for me for some reason. Magic Bounce is always fun too.
swordz9: I like how all the crystals form a dress. I think they made it a princess in a movie and this definitely makes It look the part.
Paratroopa1: suck it chandelure diancie is the better chandelier

ctes: Why in the world they made this surprised me. They practically made it with its mega in mind. Its mega is a lot cooler than itself. I like how they make it less bulky and more offensive, it's a cool change really. But there's a reason why generation 6 pokemon didn't get megas right away. We had to enjoy them in their last stages as they are, this thing came to early. It sadly makes me like it a little bit less when it made non-mega Diancie completely pointless. Might as well just have made this from the start. It's not a Pokemon I'd ever really like, but they went in the right direction with its mega design at least.

swordz9: Gardevoir is my favorite Pokemon so I was worried when I heard it had a mega, but it turned out great. It got some needed boosts and the Fairy typing helped too. It's cute how it looks like a bride and also kind of funny because it's like Nintendo is aware of what Pokemon get the waifu treatment.
OrangeCrush: A tiny bit better than normal Gardevoir, so good enough for the top 10.

Pokalicious: Mega Gardevoir, otherwise known as Bride Gardevoir, and if it's a shiny, Widow Gardevoir. She is mainly here because of her design, which I just love.

Natwaf: Oh man they put Gardevoir in a bridal dress. Anyway, remember the days when it didn't have Hyper Voice, and people though Hyper Beam MeGardevoir was worth it? Good times.

Inviso: Pixilate is an okay ability that makes up for the bizarre design decision with Mega Gardevoir.
Suor: Wow bitch, that's some incredibly fat ass.
Cybat: I guess it's…getting married? That's not weird or anything. Also, those horn things on her chest are, uh, unique?
ctes: This thing sadly became a little too elegant. I mean, it was a "pretty" Pokemon before it makes sense that it's now a Fairy type, but Diantha was probably too much in their minds when making this despite Diancie existing. They wanted it to be beautiful and elegant to fit with her, but it lost what made it cool kind of. Though at least the appearence change is not drastic. Aside from that, it's really good, so decent placement.
Genny: The bride looks beautiful in her wedding dress, I must admit. Don't really have anything else to say..
MegamanX: My dress got bigger. That means I'm mega....right? RIGHT?!

Anagram: Absol now looks like a high schooler who's trying WAY too hard to look cool.
Pokalicious: Absol goes from the Disaster Pokémon to the Demonic Angel Pokémon. Looks pretty awesome, plus dat Magic Bounce. Too bad it can still barely take a hit.
Inviso: Absol wants to be Sephiroth so badly, and while the design doesn't work 100%, I'll give credit because Magic Bounce is a huge improvement over Pressure.
Cybat: I could have sworn this thing gained Fairy typing when it mega evolved. Guess not. Still, it's a striking design with impressive offensive stats, but without any defensive help it's not really well suited for its new ability. Kind of weird choices for this one.
My Immortal: Would be neat if it was just an Absol evoltuion.

ctes: I don't know, it sorta loses what made it cool before. Wings are nice and everything, but this wasn't something that was supposed to have them. They changed what they originally going for. In battle, it's just more of a sweeper than before. Good, but dies way too fast.

ctes: It's really incredible. One of the best Pokemon there is. Dragon Dance once and it's a red flag, but twice and you're done for because you'll no longer be able to get the fight attack in you need to kill it. Too strong perhaps, but it's a pseudo legendary, it's alright. It feels just as powerful as they should!
Natwaf: Looks fantastic, but unfortuantely Tyranitar has this problem of needing it's item slot for something else. I utilized it to great effect in Maison Triples and Doubles though, so yay! Plus, as I've said, it looks badass.
My Immortal: Well, I don't HATE this.

Wicklebee: It's like he wanted a cape, but didn't get it. Also has his chest plate always looked like his Poopitar?
Johnbobb: Kind of cool but also kind of looks like Tyranitar froze while exploding from the inside out.
MegamanX: This is how you take a cool dragon and make him even cooler. The chest design of the armor is great.

mcflubbin: I need to reiterate how much I fucking hate the stupid goddamn spike on the top of Mega T-Tar's head.

Suor: Typical example of a Mega that takes a pokémon's defining trait (rock spikes) and takes it to an extreme in an attempt to make it look more threatening. Or dumb, which is what Mega Tyranitar is.
Anagram: Stupid and ugly.
Genny: Whomever designed this just completely missed the point. And it has the same ability as its base form really? What was even the point then? Just give it the STAT boost if you felt it needed it that bad (and it didn't) <_<
Inviso: Jesus Christ this thing is overdesigned. It didn't need a mega, and it looks far too unnecessarily pimped out.

My Immortal: Okay, this guy's okay. Badass. I used an Aerodactyl recently, but before Mega-him existed, but I would be tempted to try again.
Anagram: Just Aerodactyl with spikes. I like Aerodactyl and I like spikes.
MegamanX: The only simple armor stubble I like because he looks freaking old and badass.
Comm: Incredible. They somehow made a prehistoric Pokemon look even older and more dangerous.
ctes: It's awesome, really. It's first and foremost very excellent and lovable to use. Making it available that early in XY with its stone helps. I like to think that this is its true form while its look as a normal Aerodactyl was a result of it recently being a fossil.
Wicklebee: Break all your weapons on his mighty rock armor!
StifledSilence: I both like this and think it's extremely lazy.
Johnbobb: Throwing a bunch of rocks on him probably doesn’t make him a better flyer but overall it seems fitting.
XIII: FUCKING CHIN
Natwaf: Taunt aerodactyl is back, with a boost to attack, speed, and badass looks. Unfortunately… Tough Claws is kinda wasted. Stone Edge and Earthquake aren't contact mvoes and aren't boosted.
Pokalicious: Mega Aerodactyl would be higher, but all those unnecessary spikes brings it down.
Suor: Someone really loves random spikes at Game Freak.
Genny: Your face makes me laugh. Actually you yourself make me laugh. This is the epitome of what NOT to do with mega evolutions: more spikes, I SAID MOAR SPIEKZZZ! Yet it's just so flipping hilarious to me I can't help but enjoy it as a parody of itself. That fucking rock beard man, are you shitting me? Tough Claws is growing on me as well.

swordz9: I said it before, but I never cared about Banette until it got a Mega.
Inviso: I think Banette is a cool Pokemon that's mostly underwhelming, so giving it Prankster is a great way to get into my heart, plus the design is pretty awesome.
Comm: I was never a huge Banette fan, but the inclusion of all those different zippers really upped this Pokemon's look. Very twisted.
Paratroopa1: yeah this dude is just cool and creepy as hell
Pokalicious: Now THIS is how you do a Mega Evolution. One of my favorite designs.
MegamanX: Really dig the puppet look here. It's eery.

Genny: I like that it's literally coming unraveled- really sells the crazy psychotic aspect its original FE form sold in its Pokédex entries, but I can't help but feel it rips off base Sableye in battle style and is thus kinda pointless. Shame.

Cybat: So wait, is that its body, or does it just wear a puppet thing over its real body? So many questions. But yeah, this thing surprisingly has one of the creepiest designs of any Ghost Pokemon, too bad it's not very good. I know it would be complicated but would it have killed them to let Prankster activate on the turn it mega evolves?
Suor: Wow that's vulgar, close your zip, pervert.
PrinceKaro: My favorite ghost turns into this silly-looking zipper fetish thing. Sadness.

ctes: I actually really like its design. They did just the right thing with it, it looks so cool. Beyond that I don't really care for it much though, but I didn't to begin with either. Prankster works well with it, so there's that, but when it's not a Pokemon I care too much about to begin with, it just can't be higher than this.
Natwaf: Scary, and dem claws. This thing definitely needed a Mega. Do we need another Prankster though?

Genny: Oh my gawd it's so magnificent. I like that it evolves an entirely new battle style in addition to its tweaked appearance (which somehow manages to improve on what is already perfection). It just seems like such a jackass. The kind of thing that will throw snowballs at you only to hide within the safety of its snow fort so you can't even toss one back and I love, Love, LOVE that aspect. It's so fitting to a mischievous prankster and that's always what I've imagined Sableye to be.
swordz9: I love how demonic the face looks. I wish this was the default look because normal Sableye is whatever.

MegamanX: This pokemon sucks but how could I hate a pokemon that grows a giant gem larger than the size of its body out of its own chest and then uses it as a shield while looking insane.

Inviso: I like Prankster Sableye. I don't care how cute his Mega is, Prankster is more fun than Magic Bounce.
Raka: Sableye smorsgasbord and gold flakes
Pokalicious: Better than the regular design, even if it's just hiding behind that giant gem. Shame it loses Prankster.

Often they don't change much, but they gotta change somewhat and I don't feel like it becomes a better Pokemon by riding behind a bigger crystal, quite the opposite in fact.

Comm: So fucking cool. Every Mega evolution should look this badass. I'm not the biggest Salamence fan (it's alright), but this Mega is by far the best.
Natwaf: BATTLE CRUISER OPERATIONAL. And what a space ship it is, the S.S. Salamence rocketed it's way to ubers, and for good reason. Dragon Dance + Aerilate + Return/Double Edge is a very dangerous combo, and Mence has the bulk to pull it off. Ridiculously easy too, since it has Intimidate in base form too.
OrangeCrush: If Salamence hits like a truck, then Mega Salamence hits like a nuke.

Suor: People love to diss Mega Salamence but I think it looks pretty original, which is something rare in Mega Evolutions. I mean it almost looks like a dragon spaceship, it's pretty amazing. Nevermind that giving it Aerilate was a mistake.
Paratroopa1: kinda looks like the rebellion logo from star wars so I guess that's better than the original salamence

It wings suddenly seem stiff and breakable, it's god ugly, I don't get some of the designs at all sometimes and this is one of those times.

Genny: My unflinching love of Aggron prevents me from ranking it any lower than this, but it's a bit of a downgrade in appearance and I'm not sure how much practical use one would get out of Filter as opposed to Sturdy, but maybe it's just me.
hotdogturtle: Every time I want to use Aggron, I go through my usual routine where I start thinking about which Pokeball to use, realize that Aron cannot legally be caught in a Heavy Ball, and then remember why I haven't done this, and that I've gone through this thought process before. I still haven't used an Aggron because of that
Raka: Baked Aggron with truffle butter
Cybat: Filter and losing that pesky Rock typing? Sounds good to me. Base 230 defense is almost comically high; too bad he doesn't get any recovery. Some of the extra spikes they added look sort of…haphazard, but I'm not going to tell him that to his face.

swordz9: I feel bad ranking this beast so low since he looks like he could fit into a monster movie, but he still doesn't take hits too well and is pretty slow.

MegamanX: Sleeker but not exciting, seems just like a 4th form for Aggron instead of Mega
Pokalicious: Another case of pretty much the same, but a bit cooler-looking. Plus I liked Aggron before he got a Mega.

ctes: Just another evolution really, but I liked it enough as it was. Changing the type is annoying though, because pure Steel, while helping defensively, is really boring. Sure Steel/Rock sucks, but this barely helps. They made it more tanky in that regard, but it's an offensive Pokemon at the same time, which I don't really like much.

Johnbobb: Camperupt was already one of the cooler fire Pokemon, but making him into a giant, living, active volcano was definitely a great choice.

Genny: I love its face. Looks like a Pekingese dog- which I don't even like- with an active volcano on its back but that WORKS somehow. I don't even know.

Pokalicious: I wish I could have it higher. It looks way cooler than normal Camerupt, but still having double weakness to Water + it being so slow it's just asking to be killed.
ctes: It's now an eurupting Volcano! Quite fitting. Really great Pokemon as long as no water comes, but I gotta say, seemingly wearing a dress doesn't suit it. The eruption is cool, but the design isn't really that great.
Whiskey Nick: MELTY!
StifledSilence: Major downgrade from the original.
Inviso: Camerupt is decent. The design isn't amazing, but it's decent. Mega Camerupt feels like trying to make a badass ut of something derpy, and it just fails.

My Immortal: Well, I don't HATE this. I kind of do actually why is it this high.
Pokalicious: Wasn't a big fan of it at first, but it has certainly grown on me while I've used it in Showdown. Set up a Nasty Plot and destroy.
MegamanX: From demon dog to the devil dog himself. Good god this thing is scary.
Cybat: I'm not crazy about some of the extra decorations and whatnot on its body but it is still pretty doomish. I wish it got a better ability too.
Johnbobb: I feel like this thing should have its own throne, even if it can’t really sit in it.
Suor: Mega Houndoom is the definitive Hell hound. Despite it looking great, I don't understand why a Dark type would run Solar Power as its ability. Oh well.

Genny: I wanted a Cerberus but what I got was okay. Looks even more hellish which is a plus of course.

ctes: I actually don't like what they did to this design wise. I mean, it's not too bad, it's not that big a difference, but it looked better before. It's good in battle, it's the kind of Pokemon I like and in that sense it's obviously just a better Houndoom, but I like it better before evolution design wise, so this is as high as it can get.

Suor: Sceptile was already amazing and easily the best Gen 3 final starter. The Mega gave it all I could wish for: a Dragon typing, even more offensive power and a cool ability in Lightningrod so I couldn't be happier with it.
Cybat: Not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed in the result of my favorite Pokemon getting a Mega. Dragon typing is great, but Lightningrod? Why? And why is it a special attacker when its (pseudo-)signature move is Leaf Blade? Sigh. Still pretty badass.
XIII: FUCKING TAIL
Anagram: Standing away from his enemy is random and stupid.
My Immortal: I like that he became a dragon and wish he didn't have polyps on his back.
ctes: Design wise, it just looks more experienced and it looks cool. It kind of bothers me that it's always turning its back to who its facing, but that's just the srpite. Making it a dragon type is what is truly cool though. For being the coolest looking hoenn starter, I always thought it was unfair that the other two got great secondary types and this one got nothing. Being a dragon covers that up though. Really great!
Johnbobb: Not a fan of how he always looks away but that tail is a big improvement.
Genny: They still didn't fix the testicles blooming from its backside but it's a fucking Dragon and in the true Christmas spirit I'm feeling generous.
Wicklebee: My tail is a tree now!
Paratroopa1: hmmm, he's all right, still a little bulky for my tastes
Raka: Chopped Sceptile and kale salad with Greek yoghurt topping
Inviso: I don't like the yellow balls on his back, but Mega Sceptile is MUCH better than Sceptile's original design looks.
Natwaf: Can we all agree Lightning Rod came out of nowhere? And Serperior should have been the Dragon/Grass, not this. I do like how it looks though.
MegamanX: Kinda like a 4th evolution instead of mega, the tail is neat.

junglebob22: M-Sceptile has some cool things going on battle-wise by becoming part Dragon, but its design just accentuates what I don't like about standard Sceptile: The bushy tail, the spores on its back, and the arm-blades
swordz9: I love how he became part Dragon, but as far as Mega Pokemon go there are a lot of better designs.
OrangeCrush: Sceptile is my 2nd favorite Pokemon, but unfortunately his Mega is kinda bad. The whole concept around having a launchable tail, and needing to face the wrong way because of it, is really dumb. Lightningrod feels like a waste when he's already double resistant to electric, and supports the theory that he's meant to be a Rotom-W counter and not much else. This was also a huge wasted opportunity to retcon Sceptile into a physical attacker and allow him to use Leaf Blade once again, but they took the boring route statwise. On the bright side, Mega Sceptile is part dragon.

Cybat: One of the (very) few Mega designs that simply builds on the concept of the original Pokemon without going completely off the rails. Its speed is an issue but with Sucker Punch and ridiculously good defensive typing, it can still be a serious problem.
hotdogturtle: It looks awesome without being forced, and it's super good.
Inviso: I love Mawile, but I admit that it's basically useless. Mega Mawile turns a Pokemon I really like into something semi-useful, with a cool design.
swordz9: I like how Mawile went from a neat looking Pokemon that kind of sucked to an insanely strong Pokemon after getting a Mega. It looks great too.
Anagram: I never understood the love for Mawile. Mega Mawile's a mainstay in my Battle Maison team, though. It's ludicrously good.
Paratroopa1: mawile was already pretty cool and they just added a mouth so it's twice as cool
MegamanX: That is a scary awesome thing to have in the back of your head.
KommunistKoala: Brought Mawile back in a huge way. Succesful mega evo.
Natwaf: Man, they did a fantastic job with Mawile's Mega. Huge Power turned a joke into a very frightening pokemon, looks AND in battle. Just be thankful it's slow and Sucker Punch doesn't get STAB.
ctes: Giving it double head jaws is kind of cheap, but it really works. I always liked its design, so it getting a mega and a second type, so it's not just the boring pure steel has really made me like it and put it to good use. It's mega look s really great. I don't think two jaws is going overboard, It looks badass!
Pokalicious: It's gon eat me!
My Immortal: Nightmare fuel.
StifledSilence: When getting head is not a good option.

junglebob22: I'm not the biggest fan of standard Mawile, and M-Mawile doesn't mix things up enough to really change that. And Huge Power is just a straight stat boost, so that's no fun.

Inviso: I like Scizor to begin with and the Mega design is okay, but there's nothing special about this.
Johnbobb: Not terrible, but the safety scissor claws aren't exactly an improvement.
Suor: I find Scizor's pointy feet kind of fascinating, and its claws finally look kind of like actual scissors. This should've been the original design tbqh.
MegamanX: My only issue here is I feel his mobility got worse by replacing his legs with peglegs.
Paratroopa1: bit of a mess. his claws look less impressive than before and his head is weird
ctes: I'm honestly not too pleased with this one. It's too mechanical now, and I know it's a steel type, but its additional armor and shape of claws bother me, but hey, I like that it got a mega since it's now actually stronger than it's pre-evolution, so there's that. Just too bad the pre-evolution is still cooler.

OrangeCrush: Altaria was one of those Pokemon that caught my attention back in Gen 3, and I even used a few of them, but they never impressed me. Then I saw he had a new Mega in OR/AS and I gave him a try on my Omega Ruby team. While the levels as Swablu were painful, it was all forgiven when I could finally mega evolve him into this beast. Mega Altaria hits ridiculously hard, has the bulk and typing to soak up a bunch of hits, and he even has a decent Speed stat. He turned potentially tough trainers like Drake and Zinnia into total jokes. On top of that, Mega Altaria has a lulzy design in a good way. Raka: Roast Altaria with cotton dressing
Suor: Such fluffy guy! Mega Altaria is adorable and packs a real punch thanks to Pixilate, that can be put to use both in a physical and special Altaria set. Dragon/Fairy is also an amazing and unique type combo. Altaria has always been my favorite Gen 3 pokémon and this Mega did not disappoint.
ctes: Has Altaria just been a slightly cooler Pokemon to begin with, it could've taken the top spot here. I liked it in the first place and I absolutely love what they did with it. It's design works really well and making it fairy is the best thing they could've done. It's such a cool type combination and it works for it. It makes sense.
My Immortal: Only ranked this high because I love Altaria. This still kind of sucks.
Pokalicious: So fluffy! Used one in my AS playthrough.
KommunistKoala: Definitely an improvement of Altaria
Anagram: Poof.
Cybat: They chose some very strange stat buffs to give it, but this thing is still pretty delightful. But, with all due respect to this line, how did it get a Mega but not Flygon :(

Inviso: Mega Gengar's design is extremely cool, but it gets even better when you get to shiny Gengar and it turns into a pitch white demon.
Genny: Now THIS looks like a GHOST. Take notes, non-mega evolved Gengar. :P
Cybat: I like how they tried to make it a combination of Haunter and Gengar, but the result doesn't really work for me, especially with the deranged face and third eye. But its shiny form is pretty great. And the less said of its borderline abusive ability, the better.
Suor: “Haunter looks more like a ghost Gengar is purple and phat oh nooo!!1 #tr00ghosts #haunter2spooky”. Get rekt Gengar haters.
swordz9: Gengar has always been pretty amazing and the Mega is cool in its own way. Perish Song trapping is fittingly evil even if it sucks on the receiving end.
StifledSilence: It's kinda cool looking, but losing Levitate is a huge blow. One Earthquake later, he passed on.

ctes: I gotta admit, I don't like want they went for here very much. Before it was a very strong, but also a prankster going by design. Now it looks like too much of a powerhouse. I don't think it fits with it being a sweeper. It seems like they just had to get in ground to feel good about giving it levitate, but it had feet before too and other floating Pokemon doesn't have levitate. The stat distribution is done really well though. Without removing anything, this is as good as its gets. Though I hate how it had become a Pokemon you sorta sacrifice to take others down with you instead of the sweeper it should be. The ability change doesn't help in that regard though.
XIII: FUCKING MELTING INTO THE GROUND
Pokalicious: Ahh Mega Gengar. I much prefer your normal form. Not a fan of its design at all, plus losing Levitate takes points away from it.

hotdogturtle: I'm always a fan of unique gameplay mechanics that go against the standards. Even before the game came out, Mega K was my favorite Mega as soon as I learned what its ability did. It's interesting, flavorful, and unique. Sure, it turned out to also be stupidly overpowered, but we didn't know that until AFTER the game came out.
KommunistKoala: Similar to Mawile but with an awesome new ability and the baby out of the pouch is amazing
ctes: This thing is fantastic. This is how you do a perfect Mega Pokemon. You don't ruin its design, but you make it unique. You make it special, a Mega Pokemon should be special and Kangaskhan is that. Having the baby battle and tying that with a cool new signature ability was the perfect was to work a Mega evolution out for this. I've never cared that much for Kangaskhan honestly, but this is mega evolution done right.
junglebob22: The concept of M-Kangaskhan is a great breath of fresh air compared to every other Mega Evo. It's ability might be OP, but it's good to see Kangaskhan being relevant.

StifledSilence: This is legitimately a fantastic idea. I love seeing the baby kick some ass too.
Cybat: It's so hilarious; just about every single other Mega design introduced in XY was absurdly over the top and then they got to Kangaskhan and were just like "…eh, take the baby out". This is a great example of how to take an all-but-useless Pokemon and make it relevant. Well...almost great. They may have gone overboard a bit.
Natwaf: I'm not sure if they bothered playtesting Parental Bond. I mean, even on paper it still sounds hilariously overpowered. Mega-mom is one of the key players in my Singles and Rotation team. While it's not as scary as it was in Singles, it still hits like a goddamn truck, and double Power-up Punch is hilarious. What's best is double Fake-out though, OUCH.
Wicklebee: Like mother like gender ambiguous child!
Inviso: Kangaskhan was nothing special, and then they gave it a Mega and it became super powerful. It's not a horrible design (actually kinda cute), so yay.

Genny: I appreciate the novelty of getting the joey involved. Why would that little thing count for double attack though? Should be like 1.5 cuz you know it hits half as hard, tops.
swordz9: Aww the little baby finally came out and fights too. Mega Kangaskhan is powerful, but the Mega didn't really change anything aside from the baby leaving the pouch.
Paratroopa1: the baby is cute I guess but sort of overrated
Pokalicious: Pretty cool gimmick. Parent and child finally fighting together, and Parental Bond is awesome.
MegamanX: The baby coming out of the pouch is clever but lazy.

ctes: Lucario somehow got even more badass. They managed to make it look a lot stronger without overdoing it. It's really powerful too, excellent Pokemon to use. Though I hated you got one for free in XY when you could've trained a Riolu yourself from before taking on the first gym. The player should've just gotten the mega stone there. But yeah, not much to say I just really love it.
StifledSilence: It's actually pretty cool.
Anagram: Mega Lucario more like More Lucario
Johnbobb: Like Mega Blaziken, it’d made Lucario look a little more badass and a little more like a real fighter. Sleeker and definitely makes him stand out more.
Genny: Initially I wasn't sold on it- the dreads are cool but everything else just screamed overdesigned and awful. But then I watched Pikachu vs. Mega Lucario and that became a top 1 battle for me in the series of Pokémon.
Comm: A very logical evolution. It's nothing special, but it's just strong all around.
Natwaf: Scary, VERY scary. Adaptability on this thing is unfair. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) they still wasted points on special attack. And did anybody actually use the Lucario they got in XY for free?
Inviso: I think Lucario is awesome and Mega Lucario is awesome, but the evolution is a downgrade in design for sure.

Johnbobb: Holy hell that thing is horrifying. Puts the original to shame. Easily the biggest improvement in any of the Mega evolutions.
Cybat: There are not many designs in Pokemon that are straight-up terrifying. This…is one of them. Just look at those eyes. And with a fun ability that makes good use of Quick Attack, Return, or Thrash, depending on your playstyle, he can hold his own too.
MegamanX: Pinsir was a cool Gen 1 bug, now he is a demon and that is hard to hate.
KommunistKoala: Making Pinsir awesome.

It's good in battle!

XIII: It's Charizard but with more Charizard
Genny: It's everything I wish Charizard's original design was: sleek, streamlined, and a little bit sexy. I know X will do a lot better and I'm okay with that, but in my heart Y will always be #1. Well... 2.
Raka: Charizard breast and wings with orange sauce
StifledSilence: Less cool than regular Charizard, but very useful in battle. Also it's still Charizard so it's better than everything else that isn't Charizard.
Suor: Absolutely glorious appearance. It's just as awesome as the original Charizard but with a more threatening presence and rugged look. Besides, Drought finally brought Charizard back into the competitive scene after years of Stealth Rock oppression, so I couldn't be happier about this Mega (and X too, of course).
Pokalicious: Unpopular opinion, but I think this is the best Charizard Mega Evolution. It's a pretty simple design, not too extravagant. Plus Drought + Fire Blast/SolarBeam = GG most likely.
Whiskey Nick: ELEGANCE!
MegamanX: Sleek but looks like a 4th evolution. It looks cool enough though to rank it really high
swordz9: He should be part Dragon too since he looks so much like one, but oh well.

OrangeCrush: Mega Charizard Y looks like a dragon, but is not a dragon. Instead he's a Flying type. As we all know, the Flying type is sacred and classifying a mere fire dragon as a Flying type is the ultimate insult. 48th place is too good for this abomination.
ctes: There is just no way that this one is cooler than Charizard-X. I mean, drought and high special attack is cool, but Charizard itself look cooler than this one. I gets to be high because it really nice to use and is useful, but it looks inferior to the most iconic Pokemon there is.
Natwaf: The inferior Zard, but it is by no means a bad poke. Yes, it's still 4x weak to Stealth Rock… BUT WHO CARES HERE COMES MR. SUN! Charizard Y is freakin' scary, even if he only has one reliable STAB, and a better supporter thanks to the weather. It's stilll ****ing Fire/Flying though, and can still be outsped.
Inviso: Charizard is overrated and did not need TWO mega evolutions. Charizard Y just looks so generic and pointless.
Johnbobb: More logical than X, and would be a lot cooler without that comparison.
Cybat: "Hey, what makes something look more powerful?" "Acuter angles." …Drought is certainly appreciated though.
Anagram: I think it looks kind of awful, but Charizard's base design is still good enough to mostly redeem it.
Comm: To take an iconic Pokemon like Charizard and simply add a few more spikes is a shame.
junglebob22: There's a lot of design changes here that seem inoffensive on their own, but they all add up into this imposter Charizard that just looks…off.

Natwaf: But the one who'll type that period is… STAR PLATINUM! Like the Iron meteor that he is, Metagross got a much welcome boost in speed, defense, and attack. And also uneeded ones in Special Attack. Also, Meteor Mash nerf. WTF Gamefreak. Still, that's not enough to stop Megagross from ORAORAORAORA-ing it's way to victory. Shame it didn't get Shift Gear, but that'd be pushing it. Tough Claws is enough
Cybat: Not a huge change, but sometimes (read: usually) that's OK for Megas. Its shiny coloring is pretty great, and its ability, while not super interesting, is useful and fits it well. Also, I was way underleveled the first time I fought Steven in AS so this thing was actually scary. So that was fun.
Raka: Hard-shelled Metagross with rock salt

ctes: I like what they did here. It seems so different, but they just mostly moved its legs to make it seem a lot more offensive, which makes sense when it has tough claws. It's a really good Pokemon to use.
Inviso: Metagross goes from weird metal Tektite to attack Tektite, and I approve of this upgrade.

ctes: This thing is super badass, it's a super hero now! Looks really good. Doesn't really change too much, but they don't always have to. Excellent sweeper.
Anagram: Few things can pull off capes. Gallade is apparently one of them.
Genny: Still has the child-bearing hips of its precursor. Actually it's relatively unchanged in appearance, but since Gallade was already awesome that's probably for the best. Just add a cape, mix in one new ability, sprinkle some Attack and a bit of Defense on top and we're good to go.
Cybat: Gallade is cool, so Gallade with a cape is obviously still cool. But seriously, still Inner Focus?
XIII: FUCKING BLADES
OrangeCrush: Wally's Gallade is so badass. Well except that time my Metang beat his whole party somehow, but eh.
Johnbobb: Definitely a step up from Mega Gardevoir. Basically a superhero.
Suor: Base Gallade is a loser, but giving it a cape and actual arm scythes makes it look so cool, I was unprepared for it.
Pokalicious: Soooo glad Mega Gallade was made for Wally. Suits him very well, and it has saved me in a couple Pokémon Showdown battles.
swordz9: Adding a cape makes everything cooler and the blade arms look better in Mega form too. Mega Gardevoir exists though so I'd never even think of using a Gallade instead of it.
Natwaf: **** your flinches, MeGallade the hero is here to save the day! Perfect stat distribution and great ability, always nice.
Inviso: We're in the section of my ranking that's basically all about design without me caring for the battle aspect, and Mega Gallade looks decent.

ctes: I see what they were going for with this design, but I don't think they succeded. Having two cannons on the back was just a lot better than having one cannon that's too huge. The arm cannons are supposed to be the replacement I guess, but I preferred it the other way. It doesn't look bad, but just not as good as before, so it gets a rather low ranking, because this is mostly about the mega forms and not how the Pokemon were before.
Genny: Ugh, I feel like Blastoise shouldn't have wound up even UGLIER than its base form, but the application of its ability keeps me from tanking it in this ranking. I'm a huge fan of the Pulse moves so even though I feel like this was a bit of a wasted opportunity something good came of it so...
Suor: Another Mega design that is incredibly stupid, but at least it has Mega Launcher. Mega Launcher is Clawitzer's ability, any connection to Clawitzer is cool in my book.
Wicklebee: Can you match its fire power? No. No you cannot.

Suor: Both Pidgeotto and Pidgeot have always been among my absolute favorite pokémon, the former has been my favorite for years, so it's no surprise that a new design in the line would top my list. Not only that, but it also finally validated the idea that Pidgeot is much more effective as a Special attacker (which was something sadly true even before this Mega). This Mega didn't really solve all of Pidgeot's problems (lack of a good movepool mostly) but man is No Guard Hurricane GLORIOUS and damn me if this bird isn't an absolute winner in the hairstyle department. Take notes Staraptor.
Anagram: What makes Mega Pidgeot work is that it simply looks like stage four in the line instead of looking like a jazzed-up version of Pidgeot. I can definitely see why people wouldn't like it, but I happen to really like Pidgeot, so sorry!

ctes: Appearence is good, nothing too remarkable though, actually kinda forgettable. I'm really surprised that they boosted its special attack so much when it was a physical attacker before. Guess they thought Jesus wouldn't fight physically.

Cybat: No Guard Hurricane is fun times, but it also means opponents have No Guard Stone Edge. Whoops. At least it's colorful.

Comm: It's a bird that grows into a bigger bird. Who gives a shit.
hotdogturtle: I'm sorry, but this Pokemon totally flopped, in spite of their best efforts to make it work. I really do appreciate that they tried to take one of the earliest and worst Pokemon with a generic gen 1 stat spread and make it viable. They tried to do one of those surprise things where they take a physical attacking Pokemon (if you can call base 80 an attacker) and turn it into a special attacking Mega. No big deal, you just raise it as a special attacker and mega evolve on turn 1. The problem is that Pidgeot's special moves are limited to Hurricane, Heat Wave, some random Normal moves, and Hidden Power. That's hardly a selection, and taking the 2 viable moves from that list, you still have really crappy coverage. And Pigeot's stats are just so bad that even a 100 total increase isn't enough to help everything that needs it. You've made a Pokemon that is, at best, a barely-viable OU Pokemon if it was a standalone Pokemon and could hold an item. But this is a Mega. There are 47 other Megas in the game, and there's no reason to waste your team's mega slot on Pigeot, in any tier.
I don't dislike this Mega Pokemon, but I have to rank it last because it's just so bad for a mega. After my #47 Pokemon gets revealed, come back and read this again and realize that I ranked Pidgeot below that one. That hurts :(

ctes: This doesn't feel like much of an upgrade honestly. I really liked Ampharos as it was. I feel like they didn't quite know what to do with its design either. I don't see what about it makes it look more like a dragon. It's cool that it does become dragon, but it doesn't feel much cooler than an Ampharos does to begin with.

Suor: I love Ampharos because it's a simple design for a jolly electric living lighthouse. For starters, there is absolutely nothing draconic about this Mega (or Ampharos itself), so it being part Dragon makes no sense. Also, the excessive fur with cherries attached to it is fashion suicide.
Johnbobb: The hair is majestic but a fancy wig isn’t much of a Mega evolution.

MegamanX: Hey look Blaziken finally looks like a fighting chicken and not a loser!
OrangeCrush: Ironically, Blaziken is my least favorite fully evolved Hoenn starter, but my favorite mega evolved Hoenn starter.
Inviso: Blaziken is my second-favorite Pokemon of all time, and while I don't see the need to give one of the strongest non-legendaries a mega evolution, the design is still pretty cool.
Genny: An already quick Blaziken getting Speed Boost and a power boost should be game-breaking but fuck that look is just too cool to pass up. Simple, yet edgy. Perfect. If I were to rank the mega evolutions specifically by how much each improved on the original's design Mega Blaziken would be #1, followed by Charizard Y and Beedrill.
Johnbobb: I never really cared much about Blaziken, but the Mega evolution is downright badass. Seems more like a fighting Pokemon than Blaziken did.
StifledSilence: Straight out of the Fire Nation we have FLAME WHIPS!
Pokalicious: Protect/Speed Boost + Mega Evolution = Your opponent better have a counter in place. I also prefer plain Blaziken's design a bit more, but Mega is fine as well.
Anagram: "Blaziken is already the best starter pokemon. Let's give him a mega evolution, too."
XIII: FUCKING PLATFORM SHOES
Wicklebee: I wanna see a Blaziken fight with a bunch of kicking fighters.

swordz9: I really like the design changes in Mega Blaziken. It just looks a lot better than it used to and Blaziken was already pretty good.
ctes: This is basically just a better Blaziken. I mean, nothing really changes design wise, gets better stats all around, allthough mostly attacked. It's good, it looks great. It's just being practically the same that keeps it from a better spot.
Cybat: I'm still a little mad that this guy came out before Sceptile and Swampert did. But oh well. Not a huge fan of the V feathers on his face or the weird animation they gave his wrist flames, but the overall effect of his design is good.
Natwaf: Protect speed boost attack. You know the drill, and you've probably gotten sick of facing one online. But hey, it looks cool and the strategy works dammit

Pokalicious: MEGABEE OF DOOM! I love Mega Beedrill. It's probably OHKO'd if it's hit, but with all that Attack and Speed it's bound to bring one or two opponents down with it!
Suor: Beedrill had always been a really bad pokémon, which is a shame because if there's a bug that looks like it should deal massive amounts of damage that's Beedrill. Mega Beedrill not only made Beedrill the offensive threat that it always deserved to be, but also tweaked its design to make it look even more aggressive, threatening and in one word: cool. I wish all Megas did what this one did for Beedrill: make the pokémon both much stronger AND awesome. And Beedrill was awesome to begin with so I can't even put to words how much I LOVE this guy.
Genny: If Beedrill had originally been like this there's no way I would have thought it inferior to Butterfree half my life.
Inviso: Beedrill is a Pokemon that doesn't look great and isn't all that useful, so I would have to say that design-wise, Mega Beedrill is one of the most amazing upgrades imaginable.
Wicklebee: Stinger power!

swordz9: Dear God look at this killing machine. If this existed in reality I would abandon Earth because fuck bees and especially giant ones with multiple stingers.
junglebob22: A Mega Evo with a good use of spikes! It actually looks less awkward with two pairs of spike hands, and its new eyes make it look more like the vicious bug it is. Could do without the abdomen indentations though.
mcflubbin: This is absolutely horrifying, oh my god.
Comm: This is the thing of nightmares. What's better than 3 things to sting you to death with? 5 things to sting you to death with.
Cybat: Didn't see that one coming. Losing some special attack to gain prodigious attacking stats is a pretty good tradeoff, especially with Adaptability. I'm not crazy about the two extra stingers on his…legs? But I appreciate that they're trying to help some Pokemon not be useless.
XIII: FUCKING GLASS GANNON
MegamanX: I should hate this but turning it into a demon bee is pretty great.
Paratroopa1: a vast improvement over beedrill, actually has the sleek, aerodynamic shape that beedrill should have had
ctes: It's actually really cool. Wasn't good to begin with and I'm actually rather surprised it got a mega given most of their choices have been Pokemon that were already strong to begin with. But yeah, it's great! This is one of the rare times the stat distribution is just perfect. It's base stats are somewhat low for a mega, but perfect, because they gave it nothing in the form of attack it doesn't need and instead removed some special attack. It only got what it needed. The design is good too! It look stronger, but it's not too much.
Johnbobb: Because the huge bee wasn’t terrifying enough. Slight improvement, but not super memorable.
My Immortal: Bees are scary,.
Anagram: Still an overrated garbagemon.

Johnbobb: Rayquaza was already one of the coolest legendaries, but they really stepped it up here to just make him that much cooler.
Natwaf: If Arceus is the creator Brahma, Rayquaza is the destroyer Shiva. Or preserver Vishnu. I dunno. I mean, he destroyed the Meteor, but it was about to destroy the Poke-earth. Banned from Ubers into the Anything Goes tier, this thing is insanely dangerous. But the kicker is that it DOESN'T NEED A MEGA STONE TO EVOLVE! You can slap a Life Orb or whatever on that thing and you can still use Mega Ray Ray. CRAZY! Dragon Ascent is a great move as well, not locking Ray ray like Outrage does.
starfox2245: I realize that it's incredibly broken, but this thing and its segment in ORAS were awesome
Cybat: Mostly gets this high on sheer audacity. I seriously can't believe they made a Mega Pokemon that can still hold an item. And with an insane ability, too. Its design is…a little much, but the overall triangle theme because of the "Delta" thing is a cute touch.
hotdogturtle: My favorite thing about Mega Rayquaza is that for the first time since gen 1, there is a clear, undisputed best Pokemon in the game. It has unheard-of stats, AND it can hold an item while it mega evolves. It's so powerful that it caused a restructuring of the entire tier system (which was many years overdue and was a welcome change, but that's a whole other story), which was necessary just so they'd have grounds to ban it from standard play for being overpowered. I was never a fan of most gen 3 legendaries, but Mega Ray looks fierce enough to deserve its title, and is very aesthetically pleasing overall. I hope that they don't make any more super megas like this, just so Mega Rayquaza can stay #1 for a while longer.
Inviso: I really shouldn't be ranking a legendary mega this highly, but Mega Rayquaza just looks super cool, and most of my rankings are design-based.

Suor: Lipstick dragon sucks and I've hated it since I can remember. This Mega is the only reason I don't hate it as I used to. Not only it actually looks majestic as Mega Rayquaza, but you get to ride this gigantic leviathan to save the world from the menace from outer space in the most iconic moment from ORAS. Pretty fucking cool.
ctes: Aboslutely badass and also ridiculously overpowered. They went kinda overboard here, so it's limited how fun it is to use it, but goddamn it looks cool.
OrangeCrush: Now I know what using a Level 200 Raykwanzaa would be like.

Not broken enough, you say? lets give him an ability that makes him take half damage from ice! fuck right off, mary sue-quaza.

starfox2245: The Mega Charizard X reveal singlehandedly made me get X instead of Y, and I still have no regrets over this decision. Finally got the dragon typing everyone wanted, made it stronger, amazing design. If all of the mega evos were this good, I'd like them more, but alas.
Inviso: Yeah, not gonna lie%u2026Charizard is one of the most overrated Pokemon ever%u2026but I'll be damned if a black dragon breathing blue fire isn't the coolest mega evolution imaginable.

XIII: It's Charizard, unequivocally the best Pokemon ever, AS A DRAGON. It's over. The whole rankings are over. Any ranking without this in the top 2 is wrong and should be thrown out. Honestly, GameFreak WANT YOU to love Charizard and they've given you 6 generations of lovable games, so why would you not just acquiesce? Does it matter? Do you HAVE to say "no, it sucks, fucking Braixen or some shit is better"? Seriously
ctes: I couldn't take the top spot away from this guy. Changing the appearance of a new evolution, be it a mega evolution or not, is always a huge risk when it comes to fan reaction, but it really worked this one, it looks incredible. It really is the best. I absolutely love its design. Charizard was the iconic cool and badass dragon before. Now it finally actually gets to be a dragon type and even better, it looks like the ultimate dragon. The blue flames rock. Fire/Dragon is a much nicer type combination. It's fantastic to use and it looks amazing. It's the best.

Anagram: It was cheating to reuse Charizard's shiny coloration. But it's cheating I can get behind, because Charizad's shiny coloration is absolutely fantastic.

Genny: Amazing. Charizard finally the Dragon it was meant to be, fifteen years late but better late than never. Giving it the shiny/odd color palette was a neat choice, though it makes an actual shiny mega evolved Charizard X seem underwhelming by comparison. Ah well. Anyhoo the design is literal perfection aside from those awful shoulder spikes. Come on those went out of fashion in the 90s. MCX is amazing in the Pokémon specials btw. Not just the one with Red but the two (3?) with Alain as well. Go watch if you haven't.
OrangeCrush: I remember when Mega Charizard was first revealed, and pretty much everyone was disappointed. It was the perfect opportunity to finally make Charizard a dragon, but he's Fire/Flying yet again!?!? Then Gamefreak surprised us with Mega Charizard X, which was everything we ever wanted from Charizard.
Comm: An awesome spin on an awesome Pokemon. I love the color, design, and type changes. They took a huge risk with this one and it paid off imo.
Suor: The (slightly) inferior Charizard Mega is still an amazing mega. I don't like it as much as Char Y because I think Y has a more sleek design, has a more interesting ability and I'm not too fond of X's colouring in comparison, but Charizard X is still awesome and I love the fact that it can run a physical set and IT'S A DAMN DRAGON TYPE FINALLY.
Pokalicious: Charizard is finally part Dragon-type! And it has its shiny colors! Really like this design, except the shoulder spikes.

Mega Charizard X is the biggest, most blatant, most offensive, disgusting piece of casual bait that Pokemon has ever created. I'm actually offended that it exists, and the only thing worse is that people actually fell for it. It's like they were trying to appeal to the 10 year olds who think that dragons are the most "EPIC!!!!1!!1!!!" thing ever (and the 21+ year olds who never grew out of that mentality), so they actually gave into the long running dragon meme and made Charizard into a Dragon type. Except they replaced the useful Flying type, so now not only do you have a Flying type that evolves into a non-Flyer, but you have a Pokemon WITH WINGS that actively FLIES IN ITS IDLE ANIMATION that can get hit by Earthquake. Good fucking job Game Freak. And on top of that, a red dragon that matches the colors of its unevolved versions is too kiddy looking for those totally mature Pokemon fans, so they had to paint it black instead for that extra layer of edginess. And can we talk about how this extra evolution shouldn't even exist in the first place? If you look at Mega Venusaur, Mega Blastoise, and Mega Charizard Y, they all match together from a design perspective. They all represent small advancements to the base Pokemon's design but you can clearly see how they were inspired by the original forms. This one is just looks completely out of place because they weren't trying to stay logical, since they had a second one to fall back on. There's no reason for there to be 2 megas. If Mewtwo was the only Pokemon that had 2 megas, it would make sense. It was the original "ultimate" Pokemon, it's one of a kind (not part of a trio), and its inclusion in XY was, itself, put there as a nostalgia throwback for the old school crowd. Then why did Charizard get 2? They broke the trio of the starters and made Charizard the only Pokemon besides the legendary to get special treatment. That is blatant, unabashed pandering and you know it. And if you don't know it, then you are most likely one of the people who got caught by their trick.
