This match wasn't nearly as close as the percentages indicate, and ever since 2003 Link has been treating his matches with Cloud like a new chance to outdo himself. The match wasn't in question after the first few minutes, and the rest of this thing was just an effort to see how badly Link could kick Cloud's face in.
For those who remember 2002, did you ever think you'd see a match in which a character struggled to break 46% while scoring 70,000 votes? Or better yet, imagine that during the summer of 2004. In fairness to Cloud, Link was at 58% early on in this thing before slowly bleeding percentage the rest of the match. But like Zelda > Aeris, percentage bleeds don't mean anything if you're on the ass end of absolute destruction. Barring an FF7 remake, Cloud will never beat Link again.
And with that, the contest was officially at an end.
