Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow (Red & Green in Japan) are traditional role-playing games developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy. Red & Green were released in Japan on February 27, 1996. A updated version, Pokémon Blue was released on October 15th, 1996 in Japan. Pokémon Yellow, another updated version that took elements from the Pokémon anime at the time was released on September 12th, 1998 in Japan and October 18th, 1999 in the United States. The original pair of games were released in the United States as Pokémon Red and Blue, omitting Green - these were released September 28th, 1998.

Together, these games form the first generation of Pokémon.

Pokémon's strength as a whole has increased over the years, and RBY is no exception. RBY made its debut in the Spring 2009 Contest, later than its successors, Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal. It went over the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask before being soundly beaten by Metal Gear Solid and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time later on.

RBY made its return in the Fall 2015 Contest, its strongest showing to date, beating out Super Mario Bros. 3 (as well as Super Mario 64 in the bonus polls), completely demolishing Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and giving Undertale the most difficult time of any of its challengers, besides Super Smash Bros. Melee.
