Video Game Battle 2 was the fifth annual GameFAQs Contest run by Ulti. VGB2 kicked off in the Summer of 2007 and was a direct sequel to Video Game Battle 1 that Ulti ran in 2006 and a spiritual sequel to the original Great Game Battle that Ngamer created in 2003. (Ulti's previous three Summer Contests had been Battle of the Bands I, II, and III).
It should be noted that Ulti's Contests are not strictly Board 8 affairs. Although B8 usually casts a majority of votes, LUE, Poll of the Day, Current Events, Hacked, and Toaster Oven are also polled for their thoughts.

Super Mario World was named 2007 Champion following a 174-158 victory over Chrono Trigger in the Final. SMW was only seriously challenged twice during its run to glory, by Pokemon R/B/Y (99-94) and the seemingly snake-bitten Super Smash Bros. Melee (143-134). Chrono Trigger was likewise threatened twice, and both times by Zelda titles. It survived an early 112-106 scare against Majora's Mask and then pulled out a late 157-147 victory over Link to the Past, just like it had in the Spring of '04.
The surprise story of 2007 was Phoenix Wright's run to the Final Four, which included unlikely upsets of Nintendo Titans Link's Awakening (which had already knocked out Twilight Princess), Ocarina of Time (155-154), and Super Mario Bros. 3 (144-138).
The two biggest Cinderellas by seeding were #15 Big Rigs, which got to the Sweet 16 and knocked out #2 FF7 in the process, and #13 Super Smash Bros., which rode Brawl hype all the way to the Elite Eight before getting stomped by CT.
