No, Zelda isn't that guy dressed in green. Zelda is the princess, always kidnapped by that pig-monster and being rescued by the guy in green, in the series that bears her name: The Legend of Zelda. You can only control her (and her alter-ego, Sheik) in Super Smash Bros. Melee and its sequels, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U\3DS.
In the contests, she didn't do much - until 2006, where a lot of female fodder allowed her to go to the Finals of the female half, where she lost to (but put up a strong fight against) Samus Aran.
